Fallbrook Library (Assistive Technology)

My local library is the Fallbrook branch of the San Diego County Library (SDCL) system.  They employ several adaptive/assistive technologies but one that caught my eye was the Eclipse low-vision reading machine.  This is located on a shelf next to the ‘Living Room’ area (where the magazines are housed) and the conference rooms.  Its purpose is pretty straightforward.  Library users who have low vision can make use of the machine to make reading of print materials easier.  The item in question is placed on the bottom and the magnified image is displayed on the screen.  There are several options that the patron can make use of such as various magnification settings (3-30x) and display viewing modes (color, black-and-white, enhanced b &w, semi colors, etc.).  Additional information on specifications is available at the manufacturer’s website.  Library staff are available for details and help on how to operate the machine.
